Your Consulate Appointment Day

What to bring, what to expect, and what happens from the moment you walk in to when your passport is mailed back to you.

✅ What to Bring — Appointment Day Checklist

Check each item as you pack. Every item below is required — missing anything may result in your application being turned away.

Printed appointment confirmation from PRENOT@MI
Passport (original) + photocopy of bio page
Schengen visa application form — filled out, NOT yet signed (you sign in front of officer)
Passport photo already glued to the form (top-right corner)
Money order / cashier's check for exact visa fee amount, payable to your consulate
Pre-paid, self-addressed return envelope (USPS Priority / FedEx with tracking)
All required documents in the order specified by your consulate (see Step 3)
Proof of residence (driver's license / state ID per your consulate's rules)
Declaration for Mailing Passports form (if required by your consulate)

What Happens on Appointment Day

1
Arrive 10–15 minutes early
Bring your printed confirmation. Present it at the entrance. Consulates are strict — do not be late.
2
Document check at the counter
A consular staff member reviews your document set for completeness. Incomplete applications are sent home — you'll need a new appointment.
3
Biometric fingerprinting
All adult applicants are fingerprinted. This is mandatory for Schengen visas. Children under 12 are exempt. The process takes about 2 minutes.
4
Sign your application form
You sign the Schengen application form in front of the consular officer. This is why you must NOT sign it beforehand.
5
Pay the visa fee
Submit your money order or cashier's check for the exact fee amount. The fee is non-refundable regardless of the visa decision.
6
Passport stays — you leave
The consulate keeps your passport during processing. You cannot travel internationally while your passport is with them. Processing takes 1–2 weeks standard.
7
Passport mailed back to you
Once processed, your passport is mailed back in the return envelope you provided — with the visa sticker inside (if approved). Track it using your tracking number.
✍️
Don't sign the form early
The signature must happen in front of the officer. Pre-signed forms are rejected.
📱
Don't bring screenshots
Hotel and flight confirmation must be printed documents — not phone screens or email on device.
💵
Don't pay in cash
Most consulates only accept money orders or cashier's checks. No cash, no credit card, no personal checks.
🕐
Don't arrive late
Missed appointment slots are forfeit. You'll need to rebook and wait again — often weeks.
📋
Don't leave documents at home
Missing even one document from your consulate's checklist means you cannot submit that day.
✈️
Don't book non-refundable flights yet
Only book refundable or flexible tickets until your visa is approved. The visa is not guaranteed.
